Diddy, Cardi B, Drake and More: Celebrities Who Break the Bank to Throw Elaborate Birthday Parties

When it comes down to celebrating another year’s rotation around the sun, no one does it better than the rich and famous. From renting out extraordinary venues to host their parties to giving away a million worth of gifts to their friends and family, some celebrities go all out when it comes down to their birthdays.

While few can throw parties like Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, who dropped about $27 million on his 50th birthday soiree in 1996 and paid Michael Jackson $17 million just to perform one night in his custom-built stadium, many still have had parties that are just as impressive.

Check out these celebrities that have no problem breaking the bank to celebrate their birthdays.

Nelly

The St. Louis emcee just turned 48, and on Oct. 31, 2022, he decided to have a Doo Wop-themed costume party for his friends called “The Mo-town Revue 50’s & 60’s Costume Party.”

Nelly dressed up as David Ruffin of The Temptations and enlisted producers Bryan Michael Cox, Johnta Austin, and Jermaine Dupri to play the rest of the famous group members.

P Diddy

Over 12 years ago, when Sean Combs entered into his “naughty 40s,” he threw himself a $3 million party at the Grand Ballroom at New York City’s Plaza Hotel on Fifth Avenue. The flowers alone (mounds of white orchids) were almost $30,000. His star-studded list including Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian, Nelly, and more attended his fantasyland-themed celebrations.

If you think that was something else, his 50th party was even more extraordinary. While the price tag of the event has not been revealed, people are certain that Brother Love dropped a pretty penny to make sure his guests (Naomi Campbell, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Usher, Lil’ Kim, Pharrell, Kelly Rowland, Tracee Ellis Ross, Cardi B, her husband Offset, Lizzo, Janelle Monáe, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Queen Latifah, Post Malone, Regina King, and Janelle Monae) where comfortable.

This party, sponsored by Ciroc, doubled as a concert with Mary J. Blige doing a private show.

Rick Ross

The Florida rapper, who doubles as the Wingstop chicken tycoon, spent a cool million on his 35th birthday at Akineyle’s King of Diamonds Club. The Maybach music king didn’t rent the place out, though he did have the VIP area on lock, but still wound up spending seven figures in one night. He made it rain with $1 million. Once that was done, sources say he called in a special Brinks delivery truck filled with more cash so that he would not have to stop his night of birthday debauchery.

Cardi B and Offset

A couple that has shown the world they don’t care about breaking the bank when it comes down to a birthday party is Cardi B and Offset.

Every year they drop big bands on each other. This year Offset threw a cabaret-themed party held at Poppy nightclub in Los Angeles. Last year, he threw her a dancehall-themed party, where he gifted her a $1.5 million mansion in the Dominican Republic.

For his 30th birthday, Cardi threw him a sneaker ball at Sneakertopia. There were cupcakes, ice sculptures, and strippers at the kicks spot-turned-strip club. The artist tossed out $100,000 in dollar bills on the girls and gave her husband a $2 million check.

The couple has even spent almost half a million on their daughter Kulture’s birthday.  According to TMZ, they spent $400,000 on a little get-together planned by celebrity event planner Mindy Weiss.  The party included a Build-A-Bear workshop, cookies decorated with this face, a petting zoo, a DJ, and a dance floor.

The little girl also received, on her first birthday, a diamond necklace featuring animated characters from her favorite show, “World Party.” TMZ reported that the necklace costs about $100,000.

Drake

Rapper Drake just threw himself a dance-hall-themed party for his 36th birthday at Sexy Fish in Miami on Monday night.

He hosted DJ Khaled, 21 Savage, Chaney Jones, and many more, who all participated in a raffle that included four $5,000 gift cards to Saks Fifth Avenue, 10 cash prizes of $10,000 each, a Rolex watch and a Chanel handbag (that Drake promised was not a starter piece).

In addition to the big-ticket raffle gifts, he showed up in a lavender silk shirt that boasted a diamond-encrusted collar and cuffs to compliment his diamond stud earrings and a blinged-out chain.

The Kardashian-Jenners

When it comes down to which celebrities consistently go all out to commemorate birthdays, the Kardashian-Jenner crew has everyone beat.

From Kourtney’s $50,000 to $60,00 COVID-19 birthday drive-by parade to Little Stormi’s first shindig that cost her parents about $80,000, they know how to create experiences.

In 2019, the youngest sister, Kylie Jenner, spent $345,000 to throw herself a Barbie-themed event, when she turned 21. When Khloe turned 35, in 2019, she spent $1 million on a little set in her backyard.

The clan threw big sis Kim a surprise birthday party when she turned 40, and that totaled a whopping $1 million also. The theme of the party was “memory lane” as they recreated  precious memories from all the birthdays of her life, including video clips that were dubbed with a message from his late father, Robert Kardashian.

The biggest birthday bash of the family was in celebration of the Grand Dame, Kris Jenner. In 2015, the family celebrated her 60th birthday with the 1920s Great Gatsby-themed party. Almost everyone dressed up in shimmery glitz and tassels (Kourtney was in a black tuxedo), while their mom beamed in all white.

They spent an incredible $2 million for this party, blasting all the other parties out of the water.
