Not only has actress Lupita Nyong’o gone public with boyfriend Selema “Sal” Masekela but it appears the couple has purchased a home together in Los Angeles. The pair recently paid $4.5 million for a sprawling estate in the Topanga Canyon.
Nyong’o began her career in the entertainment industry as part of the production crew for films such as “Namesake.” After graduating from Yale School of Drama, Nyong’o rose to fame after winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for “12 Years a Slave” in 2013. Since then, Nyong’o has garnered roles in films such as “Us,” the “Black Panther” films, and “Star Wars” trilogy. She has also written a New York Times bestseller, “Sulwe.” According to Celebrity Networth, Nyong’o’s net worth is $10 million.
Masekela is a producer and television host. Best known for hosting ESPN’s X Games, “Red Bull Signature Series” on NBC, and the “Daily 10” news show on E! Channel, Masekela is also a surfer and owner of Mami Wata, an e-commerce business dedicated to surfing. The son of late South African jazz musician Hugh Masekela, he has a net worth of $2 million.
A Secluded, Sustainable Home in Topanga Canyon
Nyong’o and Masekela’s home was custom-built in 2014. The 4,296-square-foot home sits on 2.4 acres of land. Locked behind a steel-gated driveway, the contemporary home is at the end of a quiet one-way street.
Described as a self-sustainable home, the residence includes solar-powered, automation, and filtration systems.
Inside there are floor-to-ceiling glass walls that include views of the ocean as well as sprawling hills and the canyon of Topanga. The living room includes a fireplace and glass doors that open up to a balcony. A dining area features a wet bar connected to a gourmet kitchen which includes quartz countertops, an eat-in-island, bamboo cabinetry, and high-end appliances.
Upstairs is a master bedroom suite that includes a soaking tub and a two-person steam shower. There are also two other bedrooms and three bathrooms.
On the lower level, there is a media room with a separate entrance and a wet bar. Another ensuite bedroom is also on this level and has been converted into an office.
Outside, there is an al fresco entertainment area with a sitting area, a fountain, a firepit and a kitchen. An attached two-car garage is present, along with on-site parking that can accommodate 20 vehicles.
