How NBA Star Ja Morant Amassed His $50 Million Net Worth Even Before Brands Hit Pause After His Suspension

When NBA point guard Ja Morant returned to the basketball court earlier this week, more than just sports fans were watching him. Brands such as Nike and Coca-Cola’s Powerade are observing Morant’s behavior to evaluate if they can sustain their partnerships.

Earlier this month, Morant, who plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, was suspended without pay for eight games after being seen in his Instagram Live video brandishing a gun during a raucous visit to a strip club in the Denver area.

Yet despite the suspension without pay, Morant still has an estimated net worth of $50 million that includes coveted endorsement deals that allow him to live lavishly and add to his fleet of cars.

Rise To The Top

Morant was born and raised in South Carolina. While playing at Murray State University, Morant became a first-team All-American as a sophomore. He was also named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the year for the 2018-2019 season after leading the NCAA in assists.

After being drafted No. 2 overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2019, Morant inked a four-year, $39.6 million contract that was standard for someone drafted in his slot. In July 2022, he signed a five-year, $193 million rookie maximum extension with the team, one that could increase in value to $231 million with incentives. His NBA salary this season, the final year of his rookie deal, is $12.1 million.

Endorsements

In early March Morant signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Powerade. As part of the deal, Morant was set to be featured in television commercials, billboards, and other promotional advertisements. In addition, Morant planned to attend events related to Powerade’s upcoming relaunch. While Powerade nor Morant have revealed the finances associated with the endorsement deal, the company is slated to spend $10 million on advertisements in 2023. However, in light of Morant’s most recent suspension, Powerade did not include him in its first commercial related to its relaunch.

In December 2022, Morant became the twenty-third NBA player to release a signature sneaker with Nike. While Morant debuted his sneaker, the “Day One,” while playing against the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day, it will be available for sale in April.

Collecting Cars

As Morant’s wealth grows, so does his car collection. According to 21 Motoring.com, Morant owns a Rolls-Royce Dawn, Aston Martin Vantage, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van, a Dodge Charger, Audi A8, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Parents As Neighbors

Where does Morant park all of his cars? At his mansion in Memphis, of course.

In August 2022, Morant purchased a mansion in Memphis for $3.05 million — right next door to his parents.

Morant’s mansion is 13,836 square feet and sits on more than six acres of land. It includes seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and four half-baths–more than enough space for his longtime girlfriend, KK Dixon, and their daughter, Kaari Jaidyn.
