Hip-hop artist and influencer Cardi B is no stranger to mincing her words. From threatening to “dog walk” a conservative influencer to telling the stepson of the late billionaire Hamish Harding that he should be “at the house sad,” Cardi B is not scared of controversy.
Her fearlessness was recently exhibited when she told her husband Offset to “stop acting stupid” after he accused her in an online post of being unfaithful. The couple has been married for six years and share two children, Kulture and Wave. Through the years, Cardi B and Offset’s relationship woes have hit the news, and Cardi once even said if the couple divorced, she would get “another rich ni**a.”
Despite it all, Cardi B is still one of the hardest-working women in the entertainment industry. She gained notoriety by posting short videos on Vine and later Instagram while working as a strip club dancer. Her career truly began to take off when she joined the sixth season of “Love & Hip Hop: New York.” For two years, Cardi B gained popularity with viewers for her on-screen antics and desire to become a recording artist. She declined to be a cast member in the eighth season, and began pursuing her recording career.
Her decision paid off, and today she has a current net worth of $80 million. But just how has she made her money? Let’s take a deep dive into Cardi B’s fortune.
Music
After leaving the cast of “Love & Hip Hop,” Cardi B was featured on a single by Shaggy, and later that year, her video “Cheap Ass Weave” was released. In 2016, her first mixtape, “Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1,” debuted.
The year 2017 was a huge one for Cardi B. In January, Cardi B released her second mixtape, “Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 2,” and the following month, signed with Atlantic Records.
In June, she released “Bodak Yellow” as a single, and it reached the Billboard Hot 100 charts. With this single, Cardi B became the first woman rapper to reach number one with a solo single since Lauryn Hill in 1998. The single was certified platinum seven times, and received the Single of the Year award at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards.
In 2018, Cardi B’s success continued as she released her debut album, “Invasion of Privacy.” Cardi B became the first female artist to chart 13 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 with this album. The album was certified double platinum, and they became the first female artist to win Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
In addition to her solo project, Cardi B has collaborated with other artists such as A$AP Rocky, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion and the City Girls.
Real Estate
With her husband, Offset, Cardi B purchased a lavish mansion in the Buckhead section of Atlanta in 2019. The 22,000-square-foot estate features five bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. The couple spent $5.7 million on the residence.
The native of Bronx, New York, once expressed an interest to Offset in purchasing real-estate investment properties. In 2021, he gifted Cardi B a $1.45 million investment property for her 29th birthday. Located in the Dominican Republic, the 7,000-square-foot property includes six bedrooms and six bathrooms.
Cars
Collecting luxury cars is one of Cardi B’s favorite pastimes. Her current car collection includes 10 vehicles: Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, McLaren 720S Spider, Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus, Mercedes-Maybach S650, Mercedes AMG G63, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Ferrari 488 and a Bentley Mulsanne. With such an extensive collection, it would be easy to wonder which is Cardi B’s favorite drive. However, the artist has no driver’s license.
Endorsements
Cardi B gained her first endorsement deal in 2016 with Romantic Depot, a New York-based chain of adult stores. Her campaigns were featured on billboards radio, and cable television advertisements. Since then, Cardi B has entered partnerships with brands such as MAC Cosmetics, Reebok, Pepsi and Gypsy Sport. Her collaboration with the fast fashion e-commerce brand Fashion Nova sold out within hours of posting.
One of her most successful ventures is Cardi B’s Whipshots, which is a vodka-infused whipped cream. In late March, it was announced she had sold more than 2 million cans and expanded into new markets.
“We just went double platinum! We’re not playing around when we say Whipshots is the best,” Cardi said in a statement. “Boozy and beautiful since day one, and two million cans later, there is no slowing us down. I love the fans supporting our brand – let’s keep this party going!”
Whipshots is a partnership with Starco Brands. Whipshots, retailing individually for $5.99 for the smaller, 50-milliliter can or $14.99 for the larger, 200-milliliter can, sold its first million cans in just 10 months, Billboard reported.
Legal Battles
As Cardi B’s star continues to rise, she also has faced some legal battles.
In 2022, Cardi B won two defamation lawsuits. The first case involved YouTuber Tasha K, who posted false rumors about Cardi B. The jury found that Cardi B had been defamed, and ordered Tasha K to pay $1.25 million in damages. The award has been controversial as Tasha K has taken many measures not to pay Cardi B, including filing for bankruptcy.
In another case, Cardi B, her sister, Hennessy Carolina, and her girlfriend won a defamation suit by a group of men against the three over an event at a Suffolk County beach.
That same year, she also pled guilty to assault in the third degree and reckless endangerment in the second degree, and had to complete 15 days of community service. The plea related to an August 2018 altercation with two sisters who were bartenders at a Queens, New York, strip club.
