It was just a few months ago that Snoop Dogg shared his vision for owning an ice cream shop at the opening of his Funko Pop! Pop-up shop. And now, the famed rapper, pop culture influencer, and entrepreneur has launched an ice cream brand.
Known as Dr. Bombay Ice Cream, the brand includes seven flavors such as Bons Track Brownie, Cocoa Cream Cookie Dream, Iced Out Orange Cream, Rollin’ In the Dough, S’more Vibes, Syrupy Waffle Sundaze, and Tropical Sherbet Swizzle.
“Ice cream is more than just a snack to me; it’s a way to chill, relax, and get happy,” Snoop Dogg said in a press release. “That’s exactly what I want Dr. Bombay Ice Cream to do—bring a smile to your face and ease your mind. “I’ve poured my heart and soul into perfecting these first seven flavors, and I can’t wait for my fans and the world to experience what I’ve created.”
Named after Snoop Dogg’s NFT character, the ice cream is retailing for $4.98 a pint and is available at 3,500 Walmart stores.
“Fans will also notice my sidekick Dr. Bombay is the name, face, and persona of the brand. That’s because he’s like a son to me, and you always want your kids to be more successful than you are; that’s my goal in building a lifestyle brand — starting with ice cream.”
On Aug. 1, the brand will be available in all of the retailer’s stores. Other retailers where it will be stocked include Winn Dixie, ShopRite, and Albertsons/Safeway.
Snoop Dogg’s latest endeavor is a partnership with Happi Co., a company specializing in consumer packaged goods.
“As a company, we’re always looking to develop products and partner with personalities and brands that embody authenticity,” said Happi Co. CEO Sam Rockwell in the statement. “When Snoop approached us with the idea of starting a new company with a focus on frozen treats, it became obvious that we share core values, which is a key ingredient for a strong partnership. As a fast and nimble CPG company, we have been working side by side with Snoop to create Dr. Bombay Ice Cream as true partners, using our experience in the frozen space to execute his vision. Snoop and Happi Co. share core values and brand vision, and the products we’re creating fit perfectly within our expertise – it’s a recipe for success.”
Inspired By Two Celebrity Entrepreneurs
Snoop Dogg, who has a net worth of $160 million, has participated in several entrepreneurial endeavors — from the cannabis industry to the technology sector to food. In the food industry, Snoop Dogg also is making his mark with a much-hyped cereal venture with Master P. The cereal recently went on sell at Walmart. And by Thanksgiving, he will be releasing a cookbook with fellow rapper E40.
Along the way, he has learned a lot about ideation and partnerships from Master P and Martha Stewart.
“Master P showed me the business,” Snoop Dogg said in an interview with TMZ. “He showed me how to brand, market, and do all the things that I’m doing right now. Martha Stewart showed me how to take things to another level. She showed me how to excel.”
Snoop and Stewart were known for their joint cooking show for VH-1 called “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party,” which ran from Nov. 7, 2016, to Feb. 12, 2020, and their televised Halloween food competition, “Snoop and Martha’s Very Tasty Halloween.”
Stewart credits Snoop with getting her into the cannabis business and connecting her to Canopy Growth in 2018, under which she started her own CBD brand, according to Forbes. Snoop has his cannabis brand, Leafs by Snoop, under the company’s umbrella.
