Rapper 2 Chainz is being candid about how his various ventures have accelerated the path to generational wealth.
The artist, whose birth name is Tauheed Epps, sat down with hosts Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings on Revolt’s podcast series “Assets Over Liabilities,” where he opened up about his journey as a successful restaurant franchise owner and real estate mogul all while making hits in the studio.
The Restaurant Biz
The Grammy Award-winning rapper’s Esco and Tapas Restaurant has become a fixture in Atlanta’s culinary scene.
“The location is perfect, the vibe is amazing – I consider it a blessing,” he commented, reflecting on his restaurant situated near both the State Farm Arena and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the metropolis of Atlanta.
2 Chainz’s Real Estate Game
And the business endeavors don’t stop there. Turns out 2 Chainz also has been in the real estate game since before his hip-hop fame. He shared memories of his mother’s role as a loan officer during his upbringing and how he used his street smarts to flip properties even before making his mark in the music business. Starting with rental homes, he gradually expanded into commercial real estate. His travels as an artist further fueled his interest in real-estate investments around the world.
2 Chainz’ net worth is estimated to be roughly $12 million, which is inclusive of his real-estate portfolio. The rapper’s restaurant is continuing to add to his wealth as there are plans to expand nationally. With two restaurants in Atlanta and expansion into Columbus, Ohio, there are currently plans in place to open new locations in Memphis, Dallas, and Marietta, Georgia.
2 Chainz likens the concept of his Mexican/Spain-inspired restaurant to that of McDonald’s — ‘interchangeable and adaptable’. The restaurant also doubles as a lounge with its lively atmosphere, music and other entertainment.
“It’s more than just food, it’s a vibe,” he said.
2 Chainz’s entrepreneurial spirit also is rubbing off on his 7-year-old son, Halo, who’s already carving his path as a content creator. Their podcast, “Me & Halo,” has attracted notable guests like actress Issa Rae and NBA star Trae Young. For 2 Chainz, the podcast represents more than entertainment; it’s about showcasing the bond between fathers and sons in the Black community and fostering confidence in young Black males. “Charisma, swag, intelligence – I’m an unapologetically proud father,” he declared.
As for his music endeavors, 2 Chainz dropped his seventh album, “Dope Don’t Sell Itself,” in early 2022, in addition to a joint project with Lil Wayne. The Atlanta native continues to make his presence known in his hometown by not resting on his accolades. In 2019, he became a minority owner of the Atlanta Hawks’ NBA G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks, and the rapper hinted at more to come.
“I’ve been at this for over a decade, and I still haven’t hit my peak,” he said.
