Teyana Taylor Pulls In a Six-Figure Monthly Income, Her Ex Iman Shumpert Claims In Their Divorce War

The divorce war between singer and producer Teyana Taylor and former NBA player Iman Shumpert is getting nastier by the minute with the Harlemite saying that her 6-foot-5 estranged husband has not contributed financially to the care of their children.

Now Shumpert may have inadvertently revealed the reason why his wife claims he hasn’t paid child support for their two daughters, Junie, 8, and Rue, 3. (No child support order is known to have been entered by a court in the couple’s drawn-out divorce process.)

Divorce Gets Nasty

According to recent filings, the shooting guard has requested that his wife, who he claims earns $100,184.36 in gross monthly income, contribute approximately $10,000 toward their children’s expenses each month. Additionally, he feels since his gross monthly income of $47,981, which is substantially less than his wife’s, he believes he should only be obligated to pay $8,000 per month for their daughters’ care, according to Radar Online.

Taylor does well for herself.

The 33-year-old has an estimated net worth of $5 million from a career as a singer, actor, dancer and notable choreographer, working with stars like Beyoncé and Kanye West. Recently, Taylor has been cast to play Dionne Warrick in an upcoming biopic.

Shumpert, whose estimated net worth is $20 million, has been acting also, starring in the hit series “The Chi.”

While he may not bring in more money now, he has boasted in the past that he saves a lot of his money, dating back to when he secured his $7.5 million rookie deal with the New York Knicks in 2011.

In 2018, he said during a CNBC interview, “Since I entered the league, half of my checks have always gone into a separate account. … I pride myself on doing that. I’ve done it no matter the size of my contract or salary.”

Adding, “Because of what I’ve saved I don’t really have a lot of worries about money.”

Over his career, from 2011 to 2021, Shumpert earned a total of $48 million in NBA salary.

The public fell in love with the couple watching their short-lived reality show, “Teyana & Iman,” but now the real show is playing out in the media.

When Taylor filed for divorce in 2023, she said that she didn’t want to be in the marriage anymore because of his “cruel treatment” which resulted in an “irretrievable broken bond,” according to Page Six. She also said that her partner was jealous of her success.

“Cruel treatment” entails the “willful, persistent infliction of unnecessary suffering,” either mentally or physically, “to such an extent as to render cohabitation dangerous and unendurable,” all of which Shumpert denies.

In the divorce, the “Google Me” singer asked for primary custody. In legal papers she said her children look unkempt after they’d been under the care of their father.

Shumpert also denies this, requesting that the pair split the custody of the children. Not only does he want joint custody, but he wants to have the last say in issues related to schooling and social media. He is fine with Taylor taking the children to church and exposing them to religious ideas — as long as he has the same right to do so.

“For so long as the Father accepts the financial responsibility for and actually pays all of the costs of private school education, including tuition, books, fees, uniforms, and all other such costs which are required to be paid directly to the school, the Father shall be awarded the tie-breaking decision-making authority on issues related to education,” the athlete said in the recent filing.
