Derek Jeter Offloads Quirky Tiedemann Castle for $6.3 Million

Jeter initially listed the property on Greenwood Lake for $14.75 million in 2018 and 2019. Yet the extravagant home received no offers. After being placed on an auction with realty partners Paramount Realty USA in November 2022 and later in December 2023, the estate still would not sell for less than $6.5 million.

Jeter brokered Paramount Realty USA, as it manages auctions of high-end residential and commercial real estate transactions throughout North America.

“It’s extremely unique and well above the typical price point in the market in which it’s located,” Misha Haghani, founder of Paramount Realty USA, told Mansion Global when the partnership was announced. “These types of properties sometimes take more time to sell.”

Keeping It In The Family: A View of Tiedemann Castle

With a net worth of $200 million, Jeter purchased the property in 2003 at the height of his career with the New York Yankees. But purchasing Tiedemann Castle was more than just buying an extravagant property — it was the opportunity to retain familial property. The estate was built in 1903 and is located just 50 minutes from New York City, was owned by his grandfather, William “Sonny” Connors until he died in 1999. Connors inherited the property from his adoptive parents, John and Julia Tiedemann. Greenwood Lake Properties LLC, a company owned by Jeter, purchased the estate from Tiedemann Trust in 2003 for $425,000. In 2004, Jeter purchased an adjacent property for $1.2 million.

The four-acre property underwent an extensive renovation spearheaded by Jeter and includes 700 feet of lakefront access. Located behind six-foot-high stone walls, manicured lawns surround the four houses on the property. There’s a main house and guesthouse along with a pool and boat house, all complete with a chef’s kitchen.

The main house is 9,000 square feet and includes six bedrooms, a formal dining room, a family room, a sunroom, an office, and a game room. There are another six bedrooms between the guesthouse and pool house, along with two conference rooms.

On the grounds of Tiedemann Castle, there is a lagoon with a stone bridge, a waterfall and a replica of the Statue of Liberty. An infinity pool, outside kitchen and wood-burning fireplace round out the exterior’s features
