On the May 22, 2023, episode of “Club Shay Shay,” Shannon Sharpe compared the marriage of TikTok sensation Tabitha Brown and her husband Chance Brown to that of Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade. Clips of the interviewed have recently resurfaced on social media.
Curious about the dynamics of their cohabitation, especially with Tabitha being a prominent TikToker and vegan influencer, Sharpe delved into how the loving couple manages their relationship and work balance.
Not 50-50
Her response to hearing 50-50, much like how the Union-Wade family functions, does not describe how the Browns operate, with Tabitha saying that it is 100-100.
“I don’t really know about 50-50 because it’s 100-100, right? What’s mine is his, and what’s his is mine. When we started our relationship, we had one bank account, one. We both had a debit card. That was it,” Tabitha said.
Before her social media fame as a well-known social media personality, actress, and entrepreneur, her past experiences included working in various roles, like at a call center for UPS where she and Chance shared a job together.
“We both were working at the call center together. So all our money went together, we balanced it together. We kept a notebook, and we would do bills in the notebook,” she said.
“We only had that account because it was starting to be a part of life where you had to, but our real savings were in a Nike shoe box,” Chance, a former LAPD police officer who served for 15 years before retiring to pursue a career in coaching basketball, said.
“So it’s always been our money together. And now we have multiple accounts, but we’re both still on them all. So there’s no money that he doesn’t know about. There’s no money I don’t know about. We just ended together,” she said.
Chance and Tabitha Brown first met while they were in middle school at Leaksville Intermediate School, People magazine reported. They began dating in 1988 and later got married in April 2003, a relationship that has spanned more than 25 years.
“I’ve only known one other couple like me and my wife that knew each other so long and grew up together. So, and I really kind of keep my circle. So I haven’t encountered too many people in my immediate circle. I’ve had quite a few people, especially when I moved here to L.A., to kind of tell me that we weren’t gonna make it and, you know, all this because it’s just impossible,” Chance said.
Yeah, I’m a country boy. ‘You ain’t seen the city yet. You don’t know what kind of women out here,’ that type of thing,” he continued. “But when I came out here, I came out here with a goal, and that goal was for us to make something out of nothing. So I found my … I just associated with people who were married, other young people who were married, or other people who were married and like-minded. And when it started turning, you know, going left with negative thinking and negative, I kind of put a wedge in there to protect what I got in my household.”
Brown has been making a killing with her Target lifestyle collection, that has reportedly been selling out every season. Her most recent drop was on July 21, and includes a colorful collection of cookware, serveware, and kitchenware such as an air fryer, blender, mini food chopper, pans, serving trays, spatulas, appetizer bowls, mixing bowls, popcorn bowls, wine glasses, and more. Her ongoing collaboration with Target, which began after her cooking videos went viral, has produced multiple successful collections over the past few years, Billboard reported. According to Target, Brown’s first limited-time collection launched June 11, 2022.
