After nearly two years on the market and a series of substancial price cuts, actor Jim Carrey has finally found a buyer for his Los Angeles estate. Originally listed for $28.9 million in February 2023, the Brentwood property recently went under contract for $19.8 million — a deep discount of $10 million from the initial asking price.
Inside the House
Carrey, 62, purchased the five-bedroom, nine-bathroom home in 1994 for $3.8 million, meaning he still stands to make a pretty good profit. The estate, located on two acres of prime Los Angeles real estate, boasts luxury amenities including a tennis court, waterfall pool, yoga and meditation platform, art gallery, and a wine cellar. It also features a chef’s kitchen, six fireplaces, and a private theater with a popcorn concession room.
The sale comes at a when the actor recently admitted that his need of money influenced his decision to return to acting. Known for his blockbuster hits such as “The Mask” and “Bruce Almighty,” Carrey revealed he reprised his role as Dr. Robotnik in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” mainly due to monetary concerns.
“You know, I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money,” Carrey when interviewed on the red carpet at the film’s U.K. premiere. Despite his financial hurdles, the actor, who once commanded $20 million per film, remains a Hollywood icon with an estimated net worth of $180 million.
Carrey’s Brentwood estate served as his sanctuary for three decades. The identity of the buyer remains undisclosed.
