Master P’s Basketball Dreams Revived? His Son Mercy Miller Is Cashing In & Winning Big

Mercy Miller, the son of hip-hop mogul Master P, is making waves both on and off the basketball court. As a freshman at the University of Houston, Miller has contributed to the team’s impressive run to the Final Four, an achievement that has his father beaming with pride.

During Houston’s dominant 69-50 victory over Tennessee in Sunday’s NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional final at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, CBS cameras caught Master P cheering from the stands. He later took to Instagram to celebrate his son’s milestone, posting, “Proud of you son, keep making history @mercymiller. This your first year playing college basketball and you and your team are going to the Final Four. Let God keep leading you on the journey and keep working hard.”

Standing at 6-feet-4, Miller, whose playing time has been limited, was a Top 100 recruit out of Sherman Oaks, California, where he averaged nearly 30 points per game as a senior at Notre Dame High School. This season at Houston, he has appeared in 22 games, averaging 2.7 points in 8.5 minutes per game.

Miller also signed a $1.4 million NIL deal with Black-ownd Greek yogurt brand Sweetkiwi. The deal was announced in early 2024. Sweetkiwi CEO Ehime Eigbe praised the young athlete, stating, “His dedication to health and wellness reflects our brand’s mission. We’re excited to collaborate with him and make a positive impact together,” according to the Bleacher Report.

While Mercy’s deal, which terms were not announced, may have seemed lucrative, Sweetkiwi has yet to become a well-known brand. Sweetkiwi is a Dallas-based food startup launched in 2011. Its desserts are featured in over 2,000 retail stores nationwide, including prominent outlets like Whole Foods, Walmart, and Kroger, CNBC Make It reported. In 2023, founder Ehime Eigbe, a 38-year-old, Nigerian-born mother of two, and her husband/business partner, Michael Akindele, secured a $250,000 investment deal on ABC’s “Shark Tank” from Robert Herjavec, valuing their company at over $2.4 million.

Miller isn’t the only member of his family with basketball talent. His father, Master P, played ball as well. The hip-hop mogul briefly attended the University of Houston on a basketball scholarship before shifting gears to build his music empire. In the late 1990s, he landed preseason contracts with the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors. Ultimately, he never secured a permanent spot in the NBA. Mercy’s older brother, Hercy Miller, is also a basketball standout. Hercy also made history by signing a $2 million NIL deal with Web Apps America when he joined Tennessee State University in 2021.
