Why Shaquille O’Neal Is Dumping His Cybertrucks

Shaquille O’Neal once believed Tesla trucks were the future — so much so that he owned three of them. But now even the NBA legend is backing away from Elon Musk’s struggling EV brand.

As of April 18, O’Neal revealed on “The Big Podcast” that he has sold two of his three Tesla trucks, citing frustration with the vehicles’ lackluster range. “They just don’t give me enough distance for the amount of energy they use,” he said.

Dumping the Cybertrucks

The timing couldn’t be worse for Tesla and Musk. With global backlash mounting — buyers selling back their Cybertrucks, public facilities rejecting Tesla chargers, and viral destruction videos making the rounds — even celebrity loyalty isn’t what it used to be.

As he explained, he sold two of his Cybertrucks, Shaq told guest Karlous Miller he owns a customized Cybertruck with a drop-top feature.

It is not known how much Shaq paid for his trucks.

“I sold them, traded them in, you know what I’m on now? I was into the CyberTrucks, but they don’t get enough, I want to say what’s the word I’m looking for, electric mileage? Yeah, charger mileage,” Shaq said.

Shaq then compared the Cybertrucks to the Cadillac Escalade EV car, the IQs, saying that he preferred the IQ.

“Then I just got one of those IQs system Escalade today, I was in Vegas, I ain’t have to charge up for four days. My Cybertruck here, if I go downtown to work tonight and come back, I’m gonna be struggling to get back. Right now it says 267. If I go to Atlanta to the thing and come back, when I come back it ain’t going to be…” Shaq said.

The Cadillac IQ can go further on a single charge than the Cybertruck, having an estimated range per charge of 465 miles compared to the Tesla Cybertruck’s 318 miles, and these estimates are from their respective manufacturers.

As Finurah previously reported, Shaq, whose net worth is estimated to be about half a billion dollars, said in March he completely forgot buying his IQ, a $150,000 luxury car.
