Who’s Suing

The suit was filed by music executive Wayne Barrow, who serves as executor of the estate of Biggie’s late mother, Voletta Wallace. Prior to her passing in February 2024, Voletta managed an LLC that oversaw her son’s intellectual property and business ventures.

She reportedly negotiated a $100 million deal with Primary Wave, selling half of the portfolio and certain name, image, and likeness rights, according to Billboard.

Although Evans is a co-manager, Barrow oversaw the day-to-day operations of the LLC while Voletta was alive.

Following her passing on Feb. 21, Evans became the sole manager of the LLC.

In a petition unsealed on July 8, Barrow claims that Evans has distributed portions of the sale proceeds to Biggie’s children, Ty’anna and CJ Wallace, and possibly to herself — while withholding the share owed to the Voletta Wallace Trust, which he manages.

Barrow is seeking a court order to compel Evans to release the trust’s share of the Primary Wave deal. He is also requesting her removal as manager of the LLC, citing alleged misconduct and lack of transparency, and is seeking to be appointed in her place.

According to Bloomberg, Barrow believes Evans’ control of the LLC makes no sense due to her not having any experience in the matter.

Additionally, he states that some of the proceeds should go to the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation.

Evans has not commented publicly on the lawsuit. Primary Wave is not named in the lawsuit and is not accused of any wrongdoing.

The case name and number in Delaware are Barrow v. Evans, Del. Ch., No. 2025-0760. Barrow is represented by Wilks Law LLC and Elman Freiberg PLLC, a firm that has made a big impact in business and litigation, with Wilks Law LLC making notable contributions in Delaware.

As Finurah previously reported, other artists are selling their catalogs, such as Nelly, T-Pain, and Wiz Khalifa.
