The heavy metal legend’s passing has left the Osbourne family navigating not only profound grief but also a complex web of financial challenges that could drain their inheritance significantly. Five weeks after Ozzy Osbourne suffered a cardiac arrest at his U.K. home, his widow Sharon and six children are discovering that the road ahead involves more than just mourning.

Tax Problems Haunt the Family
The Prince of Darkness built an impressive empire throughout his decades-long career, amassing an estimated $337 million through music royalties, reality television ventures, and various business endeavors, Women’s Day reports.
However, the financial picture emerging in the aftermath of his passing reveals a starkly different reality. The rock icon owed nearly $8 million in unpaid taxes, including liens totaling more than $5 million to federal authorities, creating an immediate crisis for his surviving family members.
Much worse, federal filings cited by Radar Online show that Osbourne and his wife, Sharon, were assessed two tax liens: one for $689,107 in 2023 and another exceeding $4.3 million in 2024.
“Without airtight planning, that’s tens of millions gone before the family sees a penny,” warns Gideon Alper, an estate planning attorney at Alper Law, according to HELLO!
The complexity of Ozzy’s financial troubles stems partly from his international lifestyle.
The Birmingham-born rocker maintained residences on both sides of the Atlantic — an eight-bedroom mansion in Hancock Park, Los Angeles, and a sprawling estate in Buckinghamshire, England. This dual-country arrangement now exposes his estate to taxation from two different governments, each eager to claim their share.
Under current regulations, American estates exceeding $14 million face substantial federal estate taxes, while British inheritance tax can reach 40 percent on amounts above £375,000. The combination of these obligations, along with existing debt, creates a perfect storm that could significantly diminish what the family ultimately receives.
The probate process itself presents additional hurdles.
Celebrity estates often remain tied up in legal proceedings for years, particularly when multiple jurisdictions are involved. Family dynamics add another layer of complexity, as Ozzy’s blended family structure includes children from previous relationships who might contest the distribution if they feel overlooked.
“If even one of Ozzy’s older children feels left out or short-changed, it could trigger a full legal challenge,” Adam Jones, a family legal specialist from HD Claims told HELLO!
The financial pressure became particularly evident in Ozzy’s final weeks.
Despite retiring from touring in 2023 due to declining health from Parkinson’s disease and mobility issues, the 76-year-old rocker took the stage one last time on July 5 for Black Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” concert in Birmingham. Performing seated on a gothic-style throne before 42,000 attendees, many observers wondered whether mounting debt motivated this final appearance.
According to Billboard, the concert raised roughly $190 million for charitable causes, like Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Acorn Children’s Hospice, and Cure Parkinson’s, though whether Ozzy received personal compensation remains unclear. What is certain is that the performance, while dubbed as the highest-grossing charity concert of all time, came at great personal cost — insiders described him as being in considerable pain yet determined to give everything he had left.
Sharon Osbourne now faces the daunting task of untangling financial complexities while grieving her husband of 43 years.
The Osbourne legacy, built on decades of musical innovation and cultural impact, now hangs in the balance as the family works to preserve what remains of Ozzy’s empire while honoring his memory.

I was around 58 when my thumb started giving me problems. As time passed, I had other symptoms: hand tremors, restless sleep, muscle weakness, cognitive decline, voice spasms, and a stiff, achy right arm and ankle. At 60 I was diagnosed with PARKINSON’S DISEASE. I was on Carbidopa and Pramipexole for two years; they helped a lot but not for long. As the disease progressed, my symptoms worsened. With my neurologist’s guidance, I started on PD-5 treatment from U.H.C. (Uinehealth Centre). The treatment worked very effectively; my severe symptoms, especially the tremors, simply vanished. I feel better now than I have ever felt, and I can feel my strength again. Visit Uine healthcentre. ne t. My neurologist was very open when looking at alternative medicines and procedures; this PD-5 treatment is a breakthrough.
