NFL linebacker Shaq Thompson has added another move to his offseason.
Months after leaving the Carolina Panthers, the veteran player has sold his custom-built home in Charlotte for $9 million — one of the highest recorded residential sales in the city’s history, according to the MLS.

Bye, Charlotte
The sale marks the third-most expensive home ever sold in Charlotte. Thompson, 31, completed the property in 2020 after purchasing the lot a year earlier for $1.25 million, property records show.

The house went on the market in July, shortly after Thompson signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills and ended his decade-long tenure with the Panthers.

Located in the Carmel Park neighborhood, the nearly 11,000-square-foot estate includes a two-story great room, gourmet kitchen, wine wall, home theater and an entertainment lounge with a billiards area and bar. The six-bedroom residence also features two private offices and set a price record within the enclave, according to listing agent Ben Bowen of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.

The grounds include a pool and spa, cabana, grilling patio with a fireplace, sports court, four-car garage and a detached wellness building equipped with a gym, sauna and steam shower.

Thompson’s career earnings through this point of the 2025 season are nearly $73 million according to Spotrac. Thompson was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the first round, 25th overall, of the 2015 NFL draft. He signed a four-year, $8.8 million contract with $7.17 million guaranteed and a $4.66 million signing bonus. Named the starting strongside linebacker alongside Thomas Davis Sr. and Luke Kuechly, he debuted in the season opener against Jacksonville. Thompson recorded his first sack on Drew Brees and finished his rookie season with 50 combined tackles, two pass deflections, and one sack in 14 games.

On Feb. 24, Thompson was released by the Panthers. On June 10, 2025, Thompson signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills.
