Former University of Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore entered 2025 as one of college football’s rising earners. Today, his financial future has unraveled almost overnight.

Moore has three daughters with his wife, Kelli, whom he married in 2015.
Money Mess
Moore, whose net worth is estimated at $4 million, had been positioned for long-term financial stability after signing a lucrative five-year, $34.3 million deal in 2024. His first-year compensation reached $6 million, with scheduled annual raises and retention bonuses that would have pushed his total earnings far higher over the remainder of the deal. By the time of his firing, he had earned an estimated $12.95 million.
Initially, according USA Today reported Moore lacked a fully signed contract because, while as head coach in January with a 5-year deal, he was operating under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This MOU was supposed to be replaced by a full contract within 90 days, but the deadline passed. Moore signed his fully executed five-year contract in September 2024, approximately nine months after his initial agreement and announcement in January 2024, reported AP News.
But the contract that once built his financial security is now the center of a devastating reversal. The University of Michigan terminated Moore “with cause” following findings that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This is a violation that instantly voided the remaining $21.35 million on his deal. Legal and financial experts note that a “for cause” firing wipes out guaranteed money and eliminates buyouts. For Moore, that includes the $13.89 million he would have received if he had been dismissed without cause.
On top of his firing, Moore was arrested that same day and charged in connection with an alleged home invasion at the residence of his executive assistant and the balleged mistress. Authorities accuse him of stalking within a domestic relationship, as well as breaking and entering. Prosecutors say the allegations stem from an intimate relationship that had lasted “for a number of years.” Moore remains under court-ordered restrictions and is required to wear a GPS monitor while out on a $25,000 bond.
Financially, the fallout could be more than damaging. Moore stands as one of the few fired coachs who most likely will walk away with no severance, no buyout, and no continuation of salary.
Legal experts believe Moore could challenge the dismissal in court in an attempt to reclaim some of the lost millions, but the reputational — and possible criminal — damage is done.
Sherrone Moore was charged with stalking, true, he should have only been suspended not fired..his act in own person life has nothing to do with “Moore” as a coach, as for the comment that “Ryan Clark” made about African- Americans being set back! Is not true & its a farce from being labeled as a stalker, rapist, murderer, robber, or consider a violent race were not! In all both sides were wrong & suspension should be handed down instead..
Once a crook always a crook whether it be football or marriage
Think of all the taxes he won’t be paying!
What a brilliant move, former coach…
