Damon Dash’s once-ambitious film venture took a humiliating hit as his production company sold for a shockingly low price in a court-ordered auction, showing just how far the former Roc-A-Fella mogul has fallen from grace.

Auctioning Assets
The one-time Jay-Z partner is struggling with massive debts, one of which is a $1 million.
Dame Dash’s film production company, Poppington LLC, sold for just $100.50 at a court auction on Dec. 30, according to The New York Post.
The sale aimed to offset roughly $1 million in defamation judgments owed by Dash, with only one bidder participating.
The winning bidder was Mike Muntaser, CEO of Muddy Water Motion Pictures. Over the past few years, Muntaser has filed various lawsuits against Dash, winning several and accumulating a large judgment against Dash. Muntaser and filmmaker Josh Webber won multiple defamation and copyright suits against Dash. A major copyright infringement suit was filed in 2019 resulted in Dash being ordered to pay over $800,000 to Webber and Muddy Waters Pictures. The most recent lawsuit was filed earlier this year. Muntaser filed a third defamation suit against Dash for comments made on “The Breakfast Club” radio show. To date, Muntaser who is owed about $973,000, according to The New York Post.
In September 2025, Dash filed for bankruptcy, claiming millions in debt, including over $5 million from civil suits.
Muntaser described the purchase of Poppington as partly a personal “jab” at Dash after years of litigation, the New York Post reported.
The auction included Dash’s film catalog, featuring titles such as “Honor Up” — starring Dash, Cam’ron, and Stacey Dash — along with “Too Honorable,” “Welcome to Blakroc,” and “We Went To China: Our Search For Like Minded Individuals,” Complex reported.
Attorney Chris Brown, who acted as counsel for Muddy Waters Pictures and Josh Webber in defamation cases against Dash, noted the lack of bidders reflected the perceived low value of Dash’s work. Brown, who holds a separate $150,000 judgment against Dash, received only $33.50 from the auction and has accused Dash of continuing to slander his clients despite court rulings.
Rapper 50 Cent reacted on Instagram, mocking the low sale price and referencing Dash’s past boasts about wealth. He posted: 50 Cent reacted publicly after learning of the sale, posting on Instagram: “Damn $1 dollar 👀He popped, 😆. They took his whole sh*t! when I first got on he said a mill was nothing.”
Dash filed for bankruptcy in September, claiming only a few thousand dollars in assets while owing about $25 million in taxes, child support, and other debts, with at least $5 million tied to civil lawsuits, Complex.
There is a separate federal court ordered the liquidation of assets tied to Dame Dash Studios, even though they are listed as owned by Dash’s wife, Raquel Horn, after finding Dash effectively controlled them through The Dash Group.
That liquidation stems from a 2019 lawsuit by author and filmmaker Edwyna Brooks, who won a $78,289 judgment over the unauthorized distribution of her book “Mafietta,” a debt that has grown to nearly $100,000 with interest.
Brooks alleged Dash used entities like The Dash Group and Poppington LLC as shell companies to shield income, a claim the court accepted when appointing a receiver to seize and sell assets.
Dash’s broader financial troubles include hundreds of thousands in unpaid child support, tax liens, and a prior court order to sell his 33 percent stake in Roc-A-Fella Records, following additional copyright disputes.
