Trinity Rodman has made history, signing a record-breaking three-year deal with the Washington Spirit worth over $2 million annually, making her the highest-paid player in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and, according to her agent, the highest-paid female soccer player in the world.
At just 23, Rodman has not only cemented her place as the face of the NWSL but has rewritten the league’s rulebook with the so-called “Trinity Rodman Rule,” which allows clubs to exceed the salary cap in order to retain top-tier talent.
The contract extends through 2028. When Rodman’s previous four-year, $1.1 million contract with the Spirit expired Dec. 31, she became a free agent.
“I’ve made the DMV my home and the Spirit my family, and I knew this was where I wanted to enter the next chapter of my career,” Rodman said in a statement on Jan. 22.
“I’m proud of what we’ve built since my rookie season, and I’m excited about where this club is headed. We’re chasing championships and raising the standard, and I can’t wait to keep doing that with my teammates and the best fans in the NWSL.”
Rodman, who has played exclusively for Washington since being drafted in 2021, has had 33 goals and 21 assists in 109 appearances, an Olympic gold medal in 2024, and a league championship in 2021.
Off the field, Trinity’s rise has unfolded under the shadow of her estranged father, NBA legend Dennis Rodman. Trinity has openly described her relationship with Dennis, 64, as distant and complex, saying in 2024 that he is “maybe by blood, but nothing else” to her. Raised primarily by her mother, Michelle Moyer, Trinity credits her mother for providing the stability and guidance she needed to pursue soccer at an elite level. Despite the tension, Dennis, whose net worth is reportedly around as a net worth of $500,000 despite having earned $27 million in his 14-season NBA career, has expressed pride in Trinity’s accomplishments.
Dennis shared this week on his Instagram Story, “It’s just amazing, girl, and all I can say is I’m so, I’m so, I’m so, I’m so I’m so proud you,” the lyrics read, which Dennis included in the post.
