Tom Cruise has reportedly left his longtime London residence and returned to the United States, a move that is said to have caught staff at his apartment building off guard after years of the actor living largely overseas.

Cruise, 63, is understood to have lived for several years in a luxury apartment overlooking Hyde Park, a property reported by Realtor to be worth about $47 million. The Oscar-nominated actor began spending much of his professional and personal time in the United Kingdom while filming multiple projects there, most recently installments of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise.
Bye Bye London
However, purported sources close to Cruise told the Daily Mail that his departure from the London property happened quickly and with little warning.
“It all happened very quickly. It was a surprise to the staff at the building where his penthouse is,” one source told the outlet. The insider added that staff members were seen removing boxes of Cruise’s belongings from the apartment as he prepared to leave.
The reported exit marks a significant shift for the actor, who relocated to London in 2021 and has spent the majority of his time in the city ever since, according to the Daily Mail. During that period, Cruise appeared to fully immerse himself in life in the UK, both professionally and socially.
Sources described London as offering Cruise a level of privacy that had long eluded him in the United States. According to one insider, the UK became both his professional base and personal refuge, allowing him to move discreetly and maintain a tightly controlled private life.
“It’s most strange,” the source said. “The U.K. became both his professional headquarters and private playground, with discreet dates, tightly guarded movements and late-night arrivals. England became far more than just a filming base.”
Cruise is also said to have regularly escaped the city, traveling by helicopter to the countryside to avoid London’s crowds. He has previously spoken publicly about his affection for Britain, its history and its landscapes.
While filming “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One,” Cruise openly praised the country, describing himself as an Anglophile. He said he loved Britain’s blend of old and new, its landmarks and countryside, and the demeanor of its people.
“I spend a lot of time in Britain, and that’s not just for work reasons. I just love being here,” Cruise said at the time. He highlighted the nation’s history, scenic beauty and what he described as the pleasant nature of its residents.
During his years in London, Cruise was a regular presence at high-profile events, attending red carpet premieres and social gatherings in the capital. He was photographed at events involving Prince William and Princess Kate and appeared at the London premiere of Brad Pitt’s film “F1: The Movie.”
His reported decision to return to the United States runs counter to a recent trend among some Hollywood figures who have chosen to live abroad. Since the 2024 US election, several celebrities, including Rosie O’Donnell, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Eva Longoria and Richard Gere, have publicly moved or announced plans to live outside the country.
Cruise’s reasons for leaving London have not been confirmed. His reported relocation comes shortly after reports that he ended a relationship with actress Ana de Armas. The pair sparked dating rumors in February 2025 after being spotted together in London, not far from Cruise’s apartment. By October, multiple outlets reported that the two had gone their separate ways, with some sources claiming the relationship never became serious.
Cruise has not publicly commented on reports that he has left his London home or returned to the United States.
