T.I. Gives Back to Morris Brown, Then Breaks the Internet with New Music

He’s Back

The donation lands as T.I. reasserts himself creatively, buzzing online with new music alongside Pharrell Williams. His latest track, “Let Em Know,” has gone viral, with fans clocking the return of his early-2000s swagger — tilted baseball cap, no apologies. Pulled from his upcoming project “Kill The King,” the moment has listeners asking if it really feels like 2003 all over again, when “Rubber Band Man” first announced T.I. as a force in hip-hop.

College President Kevin James acknowledged the donations Wednesday, highlighting financial contributions from T.I., U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams, church leaders and other supporters. The funding was announced through the college’s social media channels and reflects growing momentum for the Atlanta-based HBCU following years of financial hardship and the loss, and eventual restoring its of accreditation.

T.I., an Atlanta native, donated $50,000 to the college, according to reports, extending his involvement with Morris Brown as it continues its recovery efforts. The entertainer has emerged as a visible supporter in recent years, lending both financial backing and public support during a period marked by institutional rebuilding.

While college officials did not connect the contribution to his latest music projects, his continued presence in popular culture has helped shine a spotlight on Morris Brown’s resurgence.

The largest single portion of the funding includes a $700,000 allocation presented by Williams, a Georgia Democrat whose district encompasses parts of metro Atlanta. The funds are earmarked specifically for campus safety and security enhancements, a priority college leaders said aligns with broader efforts to modernize the campus and protect students.

The presentation took place inside a Morris Brown academic building, a setting the college described as symbolic of its ongoing investment in infrastructure and student well-being. Officials emphasized that the security funding will support scaling existing initiatives while strengthening overall campus readiness.

Additional contributions came from Bishop Michael Mitchell and the Sixth District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, underscoring the college’s historical relationship with the denomination. Founded in 1881 by the AME Church, Morris Brown has long relied on church leadership and affiliated districts as part of its support network.

James described the latest round of donations as part of the school’s “Hard Reset” and “Resurgence” efforts, themes that have defined Morris Brown’s recovery strategy. Under his leadership, the college regained accreditation, restored eligibility for federal financial aid and increased enrollment after decades of decline.

College officials said the new funds will help sustain that progress while addressing both immediate and long-term needs. In addition to safety improvements, leaders cited operational stability and institutional growth as key areas of focus as the college continues to rebuild trust with students, alumni and the broader community.

For supporters such as T.I., the donations represent more than financial assistance. College officials framed the gifts as a vote of confidence in Morris Brown’s leadership and future, particularly as it reestablishes itself within the HBCU landscape.

As public attention around the college grows, leaders said the latest show of support reflects renewed belief in Morris Brown’s mission and its ability to move forward while honoring its legacy.
