Bill Gates reportedly is selling two exclusive superyacht berths on the French Riviera years after spending an estimated $88 million to secure them for a hydrogen-powered yacht project that ultimately never happened, as he also faces renewed scrutiny over his past ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

Will Money Shield Gates

According to transcripts released in June 23, during a closed-door interview with the House Oversight Committee on June 10, 2026, Gates said he never witnessed any crimes by Epstein and did not knowingly interact with Epstein’s victims, but acknowledged he may have been in their presence. Gates described his three-year relationship with Epstein as strictly professional and denied seeing or participating in any sexual misconduct, CNN reports. However, after Rep. Robert Garcia noted that some of Epstein’s employees were also victims, Gates conceded he may have been around them. The interview is part of an ongoing congressional probe into Gates’ ties to the late convicted sex offender.

Now the billionaire seems to be lowering his profile by selling off some showy assets.

Now the billionaire seems to be selling off some luxury assets. The Microsoft co-founder acquired the berths as part of a plan centered around the hydrogen-powered superyacht Breakthrough and its support vessel, but both yachts were later sold before the project was fully realized, Supercar Blondie reports.

The ultra-rare berths are located on the famed Billionaires’ Quay at Port Vauban in Antibes, France, one of the world’s most coveted marina destinations, according to The Cool Down. Gates reportedly acquired the spaces in 2020.

The package included a massive 460-foot berth for Breakthrough and a 230-foot berth for Wayfinder, along with a lease reportedly extending at least 20 years. Port Vauban reportedly invested more than $8 million in infrastructure upgrades. The marina expanded docking facilities, relocated its helistation, created new access routes, and installed specialized equipment capable of supporting liquid hydrogen fueling.

As a result, Port Vauban became the first marina in the world capable of supplying liquid hydrogen to a superyacht.

But turns out Gates, who is estimated to be worth about $104 billion, never actually used the setup.

Before ever stepping aboard Breakthrough, Gates reportedly sold the yacht. Canadian billionaire Patrick Dovigi later acquired the vessel in a deal estimated at roughly $650 million. Wayfinder was also sold.

The berths themselves are expected to attract offers worth tens of millions of euros due to their prime location between Monaco, Cannes, and Saint-Tropez. In the world of ultra-wealthy yacht owners, securing a permanent berth on Billionaires’ Quay can be nearly as difficult as buying the yacht itself.
