After a successful opening in Brooklyn, Atlanta-based vegan burger chain Slutty Vegan has announced it will open an outpost in Harlem this fall.
Owner Pinky Cole actually opened her first restaurant business in Harlem years ago. Her Pinky’s Jamaican & American Restaurant, a non-vegan Harlem eatery, closed in 2016 after a fire.
“This is a full-circle moment for me,” said Pinky. “I had a restaurant a few blocks away that was destroyed in a grease fire. To come back to the place that helped me get started is such a big deal for the realization of my dream, and this, quite frankly, is my redemption story!”
Harlem, Here Comes Slutty Vegan
In September, Slutty Vegan opened a site in trendy Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Immediately, the vegan sensation drew massive lines.
The Harlem expansion plan was announced via Slutty Vegan’s Instagram page.
The location has already been selected: 300 West 135th Street. It will open in November. Expect Slutty Vegan Harlem to serve a carry-out and delivery menu of vegan burgers and sandwiches. It’ll feature Slutty Vegan favorites such as One Night Stand, a burger topped off with vegan bacon, vegan cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato and Slut Sauce on a vegan Hawaiian bun. The Fussy Hussy burger features pickles, vegan cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato and Slut Sauce on a vegan Hawaiian bun.
Additional menu selections include the Heaux Boy, which is vegan shrimp tossed in a New Orleans-style batter and the Hollywood Hooker, a vegan chopped Philly loaded with jalapeños, bell peppers and caramelized onions, vegan provolone, lettuce, tomato, ketchup and vegan mayo all on a hoagie roll, Forbes reported.
The Harlem site will be the brand’s eighth brick-and-mortar location.
Slutty Vegan Success
The brand closed a $25M Series A fundraising round in May, giving the company a $100 million valuation.
Partnerships
Cole has been busy signing partnerships, including a partnership with Shake Shack for a limited edition SluttyShack vegan burger.
Then there is the deal with reality TV star Angela Simmons of “Growing Up Hip Hop” to create vegan funnel cakes to be offered as a dessert option at Slutty Vegan.
Cole also teamed up with the Black-owned beauty brand Lip Bar to create a vegan lipstick collection called Nasty Girl.
Cole and famed shoe designer Steve Madden have teamed up to create the first vegan sneaker brand.
