50 Cent’s latest G-Unit-produced films and TV projects are heading to Fox.
The Queens hip-hop mogul, who has an estimated net worth of $40 million, has signed a non-exclusive broadcast direct deal with Fox. Last year the artist, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, cut ties with Starz.
“This is my vibe right now! Starz deal done, we had nothing but success so no hard feelings,” he wrote on Instagram.
Heading to Fox
The news was announced on Valentine’s Day. The deal between the rapper’s production company G-Unit Film & Television and Fox includes developing scripted dramas, live-action comedies, and animated series.
“I am excited to formalize a partnership with Michael Thorn and Fox that will allow G-Unit Film & Television to focus on putting multiple series on Fox, a perfect broadcast destination for G-Unit Film & Television content while our premium, streaming, scripted and non-scripted slates continue to grow in all directions,” 50 Cent’s statement said.
Michael Thorn, Fox Entertainment’s president of scripted programming, is elated to that the rapper-turned-TV mogul has joined the network.
“Whether it’s music, film or television, Curtis always delivers premium entertainment that captivates millions of fans across the globe,” said Thorn. “He is the rare multi-hyphenate with a deft hand at storytelling, no matter the format or medium, and we’re looking forward to developing new and exciting series for Fox with him and his team.”
And because the deal is non-exclusive, 50 Cent has the flexibility to pitch his producing services elsewhere.
Goodbye, Starz
After a series of creative differences, 50 decided to exit his deal with Starz in 2022. The deal, which was inked in 2018 and was for four years was reportedly worth $150 million. But it was a tumultuous partnership.
50 Cent went to social media to vent about the Lionsgate-owned network not renewing “Power” spinoff “Book IV: Force.”
Things took another bad turn when 50 leaked confidential information about Patina Miller’s role on “Power Book II: Kanan.” He went to Instagram to say the network was upset over the leak. He later posted a photo of a lion with his face in his paw. He wrote: “STARZ is upset i posted @patinamiller I didn’t know that picture wasn’t out, but i do know i have to build faster and get the f-ck outta here this sh-t is a mess.”
50 continued to poke at Starz. In November 2021, for example, he called Starz “a sh-t show” after episode 7 of “Black Mafia Family” aired ahead of its schedule time, Vulture reported.
Although 50 Cent’s deal with Starz ended last September, his hit franchises, such as “Black Mafia Family” and “Power” series, including its spinoffs, “Power Book II: Ghost,” “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” and “Power Book IV: Force,” will remain on the channel.
Starz is also expected to come out with two new G-Unit Film & Television shows, scripted series “Fightland” and “Queen Nzinga.”
The G-Unit Projects
50 has been busy. His G-Unit Film & Television also produced the short-lived ABC series “For Life,” and the production was behind We TV’s “Hip Hop Homicides.”
The G-Unit company is also scheduled to produce a three-picture horror series with horror director Eli Roth and 3BlackDot.
