Simone Biles may be winning on her gymnastic comeback. But she wasn’t that lucky in a recent bet.
It seems Biles owes fellow gymnast Zoe Miller $200. The two made a bet about who would be doing a winning dance celebration after the uneven bars exercise at a competition at the Core Hydration Classic in Illinois on Saturday.
Miller completed her uneven bars performance in front of a crowd before twerking momentarily in joy, prompting Biles to yell in the background.
Biles, a 26-year-old, four-time Olympic gold medalist, rushed to Instagram to inform her followers that she had a debt to pay to Miller, 17, according to People Magazine.
Biles is Two Bills Lighter
“I just lost $200 to @_.zoemiller for doing that dance celebration,” Biles captioned on her Instagram Story. “OMG OKAY GIRL.”
She followed up the photo with a clip showing Miller, 17, on TV successfully completing her uneven bars routine in front of a crowd, before she twerked briefly in celebration, which led Biles to scream in the background.
“OMG I’M DEAD @_.zoemiller,” Biles wrote in her caption.
“$200 dollar bet, you know I had to deliver!” Miller responded as she reposted a photo of herself taken mid-dance move on her Instagram Story.
Biles can surely afford to pay her debt. According to Parade, she has an estimated net worth of $16 million, made mainly through endorsement deals.
During the Aug. 5 competition, Miller achieved the highest score of 14.75 on uneven bars. Biles received a score of 14 on the uneven bars. Overall, Miller placed sixth in the final results, with Biles taking first place with a score of 59.10.
Biles performing at the Core Hydration Classic is her first event since the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, held in 2021.
Biles is Back
The Core Hydration Classic was the final qualifying event for the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, which will take place in San Jose, California, August 24-27.
Following her withdrawal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to mental health issues, Biles has been candid about her challenges with the “twisties.” The so-called “twisties” is a disorienting phenomenon that can cause gymnasts to lose their sense of awareness in the air, according to BBC.
Biles’ return to competition has been a success, as she has performed her routines with her usual precision and power.
“She’s an adult. She just got married. Her priorities have shifted and changed. And when you are doing it for yourself and you realize that it’s for the joy of the sport and not feel a lot of the pressures of something else impact you that way, it can be more fun,” Alicia Sacramone Quinn, a 10-time world medalist who has joined USA Gymnastics’ leadership group, told the LA Times. “She’s efficient. She’s very good at what she does. I know when I came back older and had better insight of myself in the sport, it’s just easier to do. You don’t feel as burdened. You take care of yourself better. It’s more knowledge, so everything is better.”
A Big Year
Her sports comeback wasn’t the only big news Biles has had this year. Biles is a newlywed wife to NFL player Jonathan Owens, to whom she got married twice, Finurah previously reported.
They had their first wedding on April 22, 2023, in a small ceremony at the Harris County Courthouse in Houston, Texas.
The couple was joined by their closest friends and family.
They had their second wedding on May 6, 2023, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The couple had a larger wedding with about 140 guests. Biles wore a custom Galia Lahav gown for the ceremony. The couple exchanged vows on a beach overlooking the ocean.
Biles and Owens have been together since 2020. They met on social media and started dating shortly afterward. Owens, a former safety with the Houston Texans, was signed by the Green Bay Packers in May.
