Basketball player Damian Lillard is demonstrating quietly how a split from an ex doesn’t have to be cruel and messy.
The seven-time All-Star made provisions for his soon-to-be ex-wife Kay’La Lillard before the two publicly made headlines on Monday, Oct. 2 by filing for divorce.
The college sweethearts married in September 2021. They announced their divorce shortly after their second wedding anniversary, following the athlete’s trade from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The trade happened several months after Lillard officially requested to be traded in early July. The Blazers opted for a patient approach when it came to negotiations, as reported by ESPN.
After spending 11 seasons with Portland, Lillard was a star and history maker. During his time with the team, he led them to the playoffs eight times, including a Western Conference finals appearance in 2018-19. Lillard holds team records both for points and 3-pointers, and ranks second in assists.
He said while he had some problems with the leadership of the franchise, he was “excited” about what is next on the horizon.
This may also include his new life without his spouse.
According to divorce documents obtained by RadarOnline, Kay’La moved out of the family’s $7.5 million West Linn, Oregon, home in December 2022.
Since then, she has been living in another property owned by the baller. This $2.7 million place is substantially smaller and is currently listed as the permanent residence for her and the couple’s three children.
While it is more modest than the West Linn estate, it is not small. The other home has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
The couple originally had the house on the market. They originally purchased the home in 2021 for a little over $1 million, but pulled it off the market in June 2022 — months before she would move in.
The 33-year-old has done well for himself. His estimated net worth is $100 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Lillard made $195 million from his NBA salary in his first 10 years in the league, and he has also earned tens of millions from endorsements. Over his career, he has signed deals that show he is a shrewd businessman, savvy enough to be seen as one of the highest-paid ballers in the NBA.
I don’t understand why the media put all of the man business all over the news like that, I just don’t get it. Other than that he is one of my favorite player in the NBA.🏀🏀🏀
