A home once owned by R&B singer Chaka Khan has hit the market for $6.5 million. The Calabasas, California, residence was sold to the current owners by Khan in 1984, according to Mansion Global.
Khan, who has an estimated net worth of $30 million, has been performing and recording music for close to 50 years. She got her start with the funk band Rufus before going solo. The ten-time Grammy winner’s most popular songs include “Tell Me Something Good,” “I’m Every Woman,” “Sweet Thing,” “Papilion” (Hot Butterfly), and “Ain’t Nobody.”
After recently announcing that she was retiring from touring, Khan will be curating the lineup of artists set to perform at the 2024 Meltdown Festival in London.
Inside Khan’s Former Home
Located in the hills of the Monte Nido region, the home is nestled in a canyon between Malibu and Calabasas. Built in 1947, the property is 5.5 acres and includes 7,019 square feet of living space.
The main house has a cozy yet rustic aesthetic — terracotta tiled flooring, exposed ceiling beams, walls with wood paneling, and brick and stone walls. The home is decorated throughout with decor inspired by the Old West, including wagons and wagon wheels, harnesses, animal hides, and horseshoes. A saloon bar is also present and features swinging saloon doors.
The living room’s seating area and fire pit are an inviting space for guests and residents.
A chef’s kitchen comes complete with two copper stove hoods, a pizza oven, and grill. In addition to a breakfast nook, there’s also a formal dining area for special occasions. Also present is a library and study.
A natural rock fireplace centers the master suite which is surrounded by mountain views and nature. The suite also includes a spa, exercise room and walk in closet. There are also four other bedrooms in the main house.
On the property there is a caretaker’s home with one bedroom and one bath.
The sellers of the home are animal lovers — there’s a horse corral with stalls, coops for chickens and peacocks and a tortoise habitat. In addition, there’s a petting zoo and koi ponds.
Finally, there’s a greenhouse and small vineyard present as well as a natural waterfall and lake with an island to help round out the exterior of the property.
