As Wendy Williams’ health concerns continue to mount, she has been hit with more financial challenges including a federal tax lien and an ex-husband seeking spousal support.
Money and Legal Woes
A federal tax lien amounting to $568,451.57 was generated in January against Williams for failure to pay her taxes in 2019 and 2021. The following month, it was sent to the New York City Department of Finance. As a result the former talk show host’s condominium, located in New York City, is under lien. Williams purchased the apartment in 2021 for $4.5 million following her separation from then-husband Kevin Hunter.
Williams was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. The news came as her docuseries, “Where Is Wendy Williams,” aired on Lifetime. The documentary highlights Williams’ health as well as her experiences of being placed under financial guardianship.
In 2022, Williams was provided with a financial guardian after Wells Fargo classified her as an “incapacitated person,” leaving her unable to access her personal funds. At the height of Williams’ 30-year career, she produced and hosted the syndicated daytime talk program, “The Wendy Williams Show.” Earning a reported $10 million salary, Williams show attracted an estimated 2.4 million viewers daily. Today, her net worth is not clear as various outlets such as Parade say it is $20 million while Celebrity Net Worth reports it as $500,000.
Williams’ current tax lien is not her only financial problem as ex-husband is demanding to review her bank records.
Hunter, who was married to Williams for more than 20 years, is pushing to see her finances, an agreement that was reached during a mediation in December 2022. In their divorce, Hunter was awarded spousal support. However, following the Wells Fargo guardianship, he has been unable to receive any payments. He is seeking arrears of said payments as well as documentation of her financial status. To date, Hunter has been unable to review these documents. He was only going to be provided with bank statements via Wells Fargo for November and December 2022 in the mediator’s office.
“On December 8 2022, I attended a mediation with [Wendy’s] counsel and [Wendy’s] New York court-appointed guardian attorney Sabrina Morrissey,” Hunter said in court documents, The U.S. Sun reported this week. “In that mediation, [Wendy’s] counsel and Guardian agreed to provide statements to accounts and bank records they claimed to have gotten permission from the New York court to provide.”
