Meek Mill is questioning whether Nike and LeBron James used the title of his breakthrough album, “Dreams & Nightmares,” as inspiration for a new sneaker release without involving or crediting him.

Is Meek Mill Right?
Nike and LeBron are preparing to release a “Dreams & Nightmares” edition of the LeBron 23, which will retail for $235. According to reports, the sneaker is inspired by LeBron’s journey to winning his first NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2012. The theme highlights both the setbacks and successes he experienced before finally capturing a title.
After news of the sneaker surfaced, Meek appeared to suggest that the use of the “Dreams & Nightmares” name, which is closely associated with his 2012 debut album and hit song of the same name, may have borrowed from his brand without acknowledgment.
However, there is a staggering coincidence that many fans immediately picked up on.
Meek Mill’s debut studio album, “Dreams and Nightmares,” was released in 2012, the same year James secured his first championship ring.
Over the years, the album and its title track have become deeply embedded in sports culture, particularly in Philadelphia, where the song is often used during playoff runs, locker room celebrations, and pregame moments.
It is unclear if Nike and James’ “Dreams & Nightmares” collaboration was directly inspired by Meek Mill’s “Dreams and Nightmares” album or branding.
Neither Nike nor James has publicly addressed the controversy.
However, some fans believe the similarities are difficult to ignore.
One item in the collection, a shirt tied to the Nike “Dreams & Nightmares” rollout, appears to bear a striking resemblance to Meek Mill’s own merchandise and imagery.
Social media users pointed to similarities between the apparel and visuals from Meek Mill’s 2013 mixtape, “Dreamchasers 3,” particularly artwork featuring a lion motif that some believe mirrors imagery associated with the LeBron collection.
“So @nike just gone take my whole brand and mash it up with LeBron … what is this … why wouldn’t anybody holler at me about this? I thought the sneaks was fake? Wassup with this?” Meek Mill wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Meek Mill, who is often dismissed online as having “Twitter fingers” because of some of his more questionable hot takes and social media commentary, appears to have found support from users this time around.
Many online believe the rapper, who has a net worth estimated to be approximately $20 million, may have a valid point, arguing that the resemblance between Nike’s “Dreams & Nightmares” branding and Meek Mill’s long-established association with the phrase feels too close to be accidental.
Others pushed back, arguing that “dreams and nightmares” is a common phrase that cannot belong to any one person, even if it has become culturally tied to Meek Mill through music and sports.
Some users have also pointed to James’ silence on the matter as further proof that Meek Mill’s accusations may hold weight; no public response has been made by either James or Nike.
