Inside the Drama

The “Friday” and “Elf” star once known for scene-stealing roles alongside Chris Tucker, Ice Cube, and Will Ferrell appeared in a Hillsborough County courtroom on June 19 in a wheelchair and wearing a red inmate jumpsuit after being arrested on contempt-of-court charges tied to a child support dispute.

During the hearing, Love’s legal team argued that the 58-year-old actor has fallen on hard times, claiming he has no permanent residence, no money in savings, relies on friends to help cover expenses, and drives a 1999 vehicle, The New York Post reported.

The revelations quickly spread across social media.

He was even trolled by 50 Cent, who posted: “Damn can’t pay 2,500 a month brokie, stay in jail. The best excuse for being broke is being in jail. LOL. Pooped!”

One viral reaction summed up the mood of many critics: “Broke ass n****. That’s what he get for hating on Kountry Wayne.”

The comment revived Love’s long-running feud with comedian and social media star Kountry Wayne, a rivalry that has simmered publicly for years.

The tension began when Love dismissed Wayne’s comedy success during interviews, arguing that comedians from his generation built careers through television and film projects that continue generating residual income. Love questioned whether Wayne was truly a national comedy star.

During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast on Jan. 17, 2024, Wayne argued that despite appearing in several well-known films, Love never built the type of career leading to lasting financial success.

Now, as reports of Love’s financial struggles become known, many social media users are recalling the Love-Wayne feud.

According to court filings cited by TMZ, Love reported earning no income in 2025 and claimed his highest gross income over the last five years was only $13,000. His ex, Tiffany Lee, alleges he owes approximately $250,000 in unpaid child support.

Love, whose net worth is estimated to be $50,000, denied having the ability to make the required monthly payments, telling the judge, “Right now? No.”

The judge ordered Love released and gave him until July 1 to submit financial records proving he cannot afford the support obligation.
