To Pay or Not to Pay?

During a recent appearance on “Club Shay Shay,” Simmons claimed that the sneaker brand she co-founded with her sister, Pastry, generated an astonishing $75 million in annual sales at its peak and even briefly outsold Jordan Brand sneakers at Foot Locker. The success story comes as court records continue to show Simmons owes $48,704.40 after a default judgment stemming from a landlord’s lawsuit over unpaid rent and other charges at the upscale Pembroke at Fort Lee luxury apartment building in New Jersey.

According to court documents first reported by TMZ, Simmons allegedly fell behind on rent beginning in late 2020. The landlord claimed she failed to pay the full amount owed, and because Simmons did not respond to the lawsuit, the court entered a default judgment covering unpaid rent, late fees, repair costs and other expenses.

Simmons reportedly did not respond to the lawsuit. As a result, the court entered a default judgment against her, making her responsible for the nearly $49,000 balance.

Representatives for Simmons did not publicly comment on the lawsuit.

Despite the legal setback, Simmons appeared unfazed on social media. Around the time of the judgment, she continued promoting her lifestyle brand and sharing glamorous photos with her millions of followers.

She also focused on launching Angela’s Cakes, her vegan pancake and funnel cake mix brand.

She said that her grandfather inspired her love of pancakes with crispy edges.

The daughter of hip-hop pioneer Rev Run of Run-DMC has spent years building her own business empire, expanding beyond reality television into fashion, fitness, and food ventures. Simmons first gained national attention on the MTV reality series “Run’s House” before later starring on “Growing Up Hip Hop.”
