Billionaires Like Beyoncé and Jay-Z Love Yachting. And Some Are Buying $330K Floating Inflatables to Keep Their Kids Busy on Their Yachts

For the world’s billionaires, the latest status symbol isn’t a bigger yacht, it’s what floats beside it.

Billionaires are rarely far from the water, and Beyoncé and Jay-Z are no exception. The superstar couple reportedly chartered the 450-foot Flying Fox, one of the world’s largest and most luxurious superyachts, for an estimated $3.5 million per week to celebrate Beyoncé’s 40th birthday in the Mediterranean in 2021. While the trip marked a milestone celebration, the Carters have made luxury yachting an annual vacation tradition, regularly spending time aboard some of the world’s most extravagant vessels.

The ultrawealthy are now reportedly spending as much as $330,000 on massive inflatable water parks, floating pickleball courts, sea pools, shaded lounges, and obstacle courses designed to keep their children entertained while cruising aboard multi-million-dollar superyachts.

Instead of simply outfitting yachts with movie theaters, spas, gyms, and infinity pools, owners are now investing in floating playgrounds.

Industry experts say the shift comes as more billionaires are buying or chartering yachts specifically for multigenerational vacations. According to yacht brokerage data, younger owners are entering the market with different priorities than previous generations.

Many of the world’s richest families are vacationing aboard private superyachts, or chartering them for a whopping $2 million to $4 million a week — yes, a week, according to Luxury Launches. And, increasingly, owners are also investing in elaborate inflatable water parks and floating playgrounds, ensuring children have just as much to enjoy as the adults while at sea.

“They want a seamless continuation of their on-shore lifestyle onboard,” Fraser Yachts CEO Anders Kurtén recently told Business Insider.

Luxury manufacturers now create elaborate floating “beach clubs” complete with protected swimming areas, inflatable cabanas, golf greens, giant trampolines, climbing walls, paddleboard docks, shaded islands, floating bars, plunge pools, obstacle courses, pickleball courts, and interconnected platforms that stretch hundreds of feet behind a yacht, according to Luxury Launches. These elaborate inflatable playgrounds are helping vessels stand out in the competitive charter market, with brokers promoting them as attractions that keep children, parents, and grandparents entertained at the same time.

The broader inflatable boating market continues growing. Industry analysts forecast the sector will expand from roughly $1.12 billion in 2026 to more than $1.5 billion by 2031, due in part by demand for luxury yacht accessories.
