The Philadelphia Eagles entered training camp focused on rebuilding an offense undergoing significant change, but one of the earliest conversations surrounding star quarterback Jalen Hurts had little to do with football.

Instead, fans zeroed in on the digital watch on Hurts’ wrist during camp. The quarterback appeared to be wearing a silver Timex T80, a retro-style digital watch that typically sells for between $70 and $150, an understated accessory that contrasted with the luxury timepieces often associated with NFL stars.
The attention comes as Philadelphia begins a pivotal summer following an uneven finish to the 2025 season and a revamped offense around its franchise quarterback.
The Eagles went 11-6 last season to win the NFC East, but their bid to repeat as Super Bowl champions ended with a 23-19 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC wild card round. Philadelphia failed to capitalize on two interceptions by its defense and came up short on its final offensive possession with a chance to win.
The loss fueled questions about the offense, its play-calling and whether the unit could regain the rhythm that helped deliver a championship one season earlier.
Those questions intensified after Philadelphia traded wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots. Brown played four seasons with the Eagles and helped the franchise reach two Super Bowls, but his frustrations with his role in the offense became increasingly public before the move.
Hurts now enters the season with DeVonta Smith as his top returning receiving target while working to develop chemistry with rookie Makai Lemon and former Green Bay Packers receiver Dontayvion Wicks.
From the opening days of camp, Hurts has emphasized what he believes the team needs moving forward.
The quarterback said the Eagles are stressing “discipline and unity” while embracing the message of “100 percent alignment, zero entitlement.” Hurts also organized offseason workouts with several of the team’s skill-position players before training camp opened, giving the retooled offense additional time together.
Philadelphia also enters camp with another new offensive system under Sean Mannion, making Hurts’ comfort within the scheme and his connection with a reshaped group of pass catchers among the biggest storylines of the summer.
Even so, much of the online discussion early in camp centered on the quarterback’s watch.
The Timex T80 is modeled after the company’s digital watches from the 1980s and features a rectangular display, stainless-steel bracelet, alarm, stopwatch, calendar and Timex’s INDIGLO backlight. Depending on the version and size, the watches generally retail for about $70 to $150, making them far more affordable than many luxury watches worn by professional athletes.
The choice stood out because Hurts has previously been seen wearing high-end watches. He has worn several Rolex models and also received a limited-edition Breitling created to commemorate Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LIX championship.
That Breitling, one of only 59 produced, featured an 18-karat red-gold case, an Eagles-green dial and carried a price of approximately $41,000 when paired with its matching gold bracelet.
The contrast between those watches and the Timex quickly became a topic of conversation among fans on social media.
The simpler choice also aligns with Hurts’ public approach to money. Since signing a five-year, $255 million contract extension in 2023, the quarterback has spoken about financial discipline, saving money and avoiding unnecessary lifestyle inflation.
As the Eagles begin a season defined by new faces, a new offensive system and expectations of returning to championship contention, Hurts’ focus remains on preparing the offense for the months ahead.
His watch may have generated an unexpected viral moment, but the larger challenge facing Philadelphia is whether the quarterback and his reshaped supporting cast can restore the consistency that carried the franchise to a Super Bowl title just two seasons ago.
