Naomi Osaka has built a career that has taken her around the world, but her real estate history has largely been rooted in Southern California.

At Home With Naomi
The four-time Grand Slam champion has owned two Los Angeles-area homes, purchasing one from singer Nick Jonas and another from Nick and Vanessa Lachey. She later sold both properties, including a Tarzana mansion that she sold back to the Lacheys in 2025.
Where Osaka lives now is unclear, according to Architectural Digest, which recently examined the tennis star’s real estate portfolio. The uncertainty comes despite her longstanding connection to New York, where she spent part of her childhood and began playing tennis.
Osaka was born in Japan and moved to New York at age 3 as she began training in tennis. Her family later relocated to Florida, but she has repeatedly spoken about the enduring connection she feels to New York.
“New York is very nostalgic,” Osaka said in a 2018 interview with the U.S. Open. She recalled walking through streets she knew as a child and said she was always happy to return.
That relationship with New York deepened through tennis. In 2018, Osaka won her first Grand Slam singles title at the U.S. Open, defeating Serena Williams in the final. The following year, she rose to the top of the WTA rankings, becoming the first Japanese player— male or female — to reach world No. 1.
Her connection to the city also extended beyond competition. In 2021, Osaka helped refurbish five tennis courts in Jamaica, Queens, where she and her sister, Mari, trained as children. She described the courts and the surrounding neighborhood as a place that continued to feel like home.
The 28-year-old tennis star advanced to the fourth round of the U.S. Open in New York before falling to No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina on Sept. 7. During the tournament, Osaka also paid tribute to former NBA star Allen Iverson, wearing an outfit inspired by the basketball icon as part of Nike’s basketball-themed approach to this year’s U.S. Open.
When Osaka began investing in real estate, she looked to California.
Osaka’s first known major real estate purchase came in 2019, when she paid $6.91 million for a renovated midcentury-modern home in the Beverly Hills area from Jonas.
The roughly 4,100-square-foot property was originally built in 1965 and renovated in 2015. Its design emphasized indoor-outdoor living, with large glass doors connecting the main living areas to the backyard.
The five-bedroom home featured four-and-a-half bathrooms, oak floors, wood paneling and an open-plan living and dining area with a fireplace. The kitchen included high-end appliances and an island with a breakfast bar.
Outside, the property included an infinity pool, spa and a separate guesthouse. The home also offered views of the surrounding hills.
Osaka owned the property for about three years before selling it in 2022 for $8.7 million to technology entrepreneur Milun Tesovic, according to Architectural Digest.
Around that same period, Osaka was reported to be looking at luxury condominiums in New York. Among the properties she toured was Olympia Dumbo, a landmark 33-story residential tower in Brooklyn’s historic waterfront district. It remains unclear whether she ultimately purchased a New York property.
Before selling her Beverly Hills home, Osaka acquired another Los Angeles-area property.
In 2022, she paid $6.3 million for a Cape Cod-style mansion in Tarzana that had previously belonged to television personalities Nick and Vanessa Lachey. The 6,855-square-foot home had five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
The house centered on a large kitchen with two islands, dark wood floors and stainless steel appliances. Nearby, the family room featured a fireplace, built-in shelving and glass doors opening onto the backyard.
The outdoor space included a swimming pool, spa, fire pit, barbecue area and basketball court. The property also had a billiards room, bar and a primary suite with a vaulted ceiling, fireplace and private balcony.
Osaka made additions of her own during her time at the home, including a gym and wellness space.
After roughly three years, the tennis star sold the Tarzana property in 2025 for $7.95 million — back to the Lacheys.
The sale created an unusual real estate loop. The Lacheys had originally sold the house to Osaka after moving to Hawaii while Vanessa Lachey worked on the television series “NCIS: Hawai’i.” After the show was canceled, the couple returned to California and eventually bought back their former home.
For Osaka, the transaction marked the latest chapter in a California real estate portfolio that has included two high-end properties.
For now, however, her current home base remains a mystery.
