Stephen Curry and his wife, Ayesha Curry, have sold their Atherton, California, estate for $29.1 million, a transaction that has drawn new attention to the Golden State Warriors star’s future as he enters the final year of his contract.

On The Move
The Currys sold the 17,761-square-foot property at 28 Selby Lane in May in an off-market transaction, according to public records. The couple purchased the home through a company for $30 million in December 2020, meaning the sale price was slightly below what they paid.
The property is in Atherton’s Redwood Oaks neighborhood, one of the country’s most expensive residential communities. The estate includes seven bedrooms, 8½ bathrooms, a separate guesthouse, walnut orchard, resort-style swimming pool and cabana, private wine cellar and expansive indoor and outdoor living spaces.
The sale marks another major Bay Area real estate transaction for the Currys. In 2021, the couple reportedly sold another Atherton home for $31.2 million.
In 2023, the Currys raised concerns about a proposed housing development near their home. The new buyer is an entity connected to a real estate investment company, according to San Mateo County records. The property could eventually return to the market after renovations, with an expanded version of the estate promoted as coming soon.
Still, there is no evidence that the sale is connected to Curry’s future in Golden State.
Curry, 38, is entering the final season of his contract with the Warriors, worth $62.5 million. He is eligible to sign an extension beginning Aug. 29. Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said this month that Curry has given the team no indication that his desire to finish his career with Golden State has changed.
The speculation intensified after Golden State missed out on adding significant star power this offseason, including LeBron James. That prompted some analysts and rival executives to question whether Curry could eventually seek a trade if the Warriors are unable to build another championship-caliber roster around him.
Several hypothetical destinations have been floated. Reports have mentioned teams including the San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat as potential landing spots if Curry were to pursue a move.
NBC Sports reported in July that the possibility of Curry leaving Golden State was not being seriously entertained by other teams, with league sources pointing instead to the Warriors and Curry discussing an extension once he becomes eligible.
For now, the $29.1 million Atherton sale appears to be a real estate transaction, not a signal of Curry’s next basketball destination. Warriors owner Joe Lacob has also dismissed trade rumor speculation, saying Curry leaving Golden State was not something he believed was actually under consideration.
